Encorps Atlantic Encourages Recycling With New Re-Express Depot Program

Encorps Atlantic is hoping to encourage more people to recycle.

Re-express was launched today, in the Sobey’s parking lot on Vaughn Harvey Boulevard.

General Manager Pierre Landry says there is a difference between Re-Express and the ongoing Re-centre program.

“Consumers using the Re-Express will actually be dropping off $2 bags, containing around 40 beverage containers, or close to that. So consumers will be asked to count what they are recycling. Knowing in advance, the value of the bag, really simplifies the deposit refund process, not only for the consumer, but most importantly for the depot operators.”

They are still recruiting up to one thousand participants for the re-Express program.

“This is a research project, and our priority is to make recycling faster, more convenient and fun for consumers. For Encorps Atlantic, these projects are to try to increase recycling rates,” Landry says.

Re-Express will also work closely with Sobey’s and reimbursement for your recyclables, will come quicker, as compared to the Re-Centre program, “When you walk into the store, you will simply scan your card and you will see your balance and you can actually cash out at the store. So we are also testing that concept,” Landry notes.

There are still spots left for members of the public who would like to take advantage of express beverage container recycling with Re-Express. You can sign up online at www.re-express.ca.
