Emergency Rooms Busy Due To Staff Shortages

Emergency Departments in the city of Moncton are dealing with congestion due to high occupancy rates.

Vitalite Health Network has issued an advisory asking that you avoid going to the emergency department at the Georges Dumont Hospital unless absolutely necessary.

633 healthcare workers across the province are currently affected by the virus, including 281 with Vitalite, and 274 with Horizon health Network.

At the Moncton Hospital, Executive Director Christa Wheeler-Thorne says they are also working hard to free up as much bed capacity on their inpatient units as possible in order to alleviate strain in the emergency department.

She adds the situation remains challenging with the high number of staff off due to COVID-19 on top of pre-existing staff shortages.
