Elsipogtog man sentenced in drug trafficking investigation

A man charged in a drug trafficking investigation in southeastern New Brunswick has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Police were told in July that a new and extremely dangerous drug containing carfentanil was believed to be circulating in the area.

Officers searched a home in Elsipogtog First Nation the following day and arrested a 38-year-old man at the scene.

Arthur Joshua Wade Simon was charged with possessing and trafficking fentanyl and methamphetamine, as well as obstructing a peace officer.

On Friday, Simon was sentenced to four years in federal prison, minus time served. He will be prohibited from possessing non-restricted weapons for 10 years and restricted weapons for life upon his release.
