Economy, A Big Topic In Federal Leaders Debate

All four federal party leaders of Canada took part in the first of four debates during the election campaign.

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper came under fire from the other leaders over his handling of the economy, and the environment.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau offered a message of hope to voters, saying better is always possible.

He says, “An economy that works for the middle class, means a country that works for everyone.”

Harper defended his record. He says this election is about who has the proven experience to keep Canada safe and the economy strong, “Since the end of the economic crisis, the best job creation and the best growth in middle class incomes among any of the advanced middle nations.”

NDP Leader Tom Mulcair says his number one priority is to kick start the economy and get Canadians working, “We will invest in local infrastructure and help small businesses to create jobs. We understand that good jobs and clean environment go hand in hand.”

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May took on all of the parties over broken environmental promises.

Canadians will go to the polls on October 19th.
