Easter Eggstravaganza Cancelled As Magnetic Hill Zoo Plans For New Event In 2019

There won’t be any egg hunting at the Magnetic Hill Zoo this year.

After twelve years of planning the Easter Eggstravaganza, they’ve decided it is time to freshen things up.

Visitor and Education Programs Coordinator Cathy Simon says weather has been an issue in the past, “We tried for twelve years, and two years it had to be cancelled at the last minute due to poor weather. The tricky part of having an event that falls on a holiday weekend, is sometimes it falls in March, whereas other times it falls in April, when the weather may be more favourable. Also, with it being a long weekend and a holiday, it is very challenging to recruit sufficient volunteers to operate the event well, and safely. It is also time for us to do something fresh and current.”

Simon says their hope is that the new event would not be tied to a holiday weekend.

“We would like to have the flexibility to take advantage of some better weather weekends later in the spring. Next week, we will be turning to the public for their input to find out what they would like to see in an event,” Simon says.

A new event will be in place by 2019..
