Early Morning Brush Fire In Riverview

The Riverview Fire Department is once again reminding residents about the dangers of fire in or near the woods, under the current dry conditions.

The reminder comes after crews responded to a brush fire on Whitepine Road early this morning.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fire covering about half an acre of land, just west of Claude D. Taylor School.

Deputy Chief Robin True says it appears the fire spread from an unattended camp fire in the woods.

A group of 9 firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour and half.

Deputy Chief True says fortunately nobody was injured but that the fire could have threatened nearby homes.
