MONCTON, NB–The lawyer for a convicted drunk driver has filed an appeal indicating that a 10-year sentence is too long for his client.
Forty-two-year-old Boyd Reginald Atkinson has been serving prison time since last November when he was sentenced in the death of 36-year-old Moncton teacher and single mother Kathy Horsman.
Atkinson pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while impaired, causing the death of Horsman, and impaired driving causing bodily harm for injuring a passenger in his car in April 2013.
New Brunswick’s Court of Appeal is set to hear the case on September 25.
