Draught Beer Quality Control Company Expanding To Moncton

It’s news beer drinkers can raise a glass to as a company specializing in draught beer certification is expanding to Moncton.

BetterBeer.com co founder Steve Riley says he started the company five years ago after he got one too many pints of strange tasting beer.

He adds they have had their eye on the Hub City for a few years and now St Louis Wings is the first location in Moncton to sign up, he hopes more businesses will follow.

He says restaurants that join submit to monthly audits to ensure everything is clean and in proper working order.

Riley says the criteria used are black and white.

“Either the temperature is 3 degrees Celsius or colder or it’s not,” says Riley. “So we’re checking things like the temperature at which the beer comes out of the tap, the fridge temperature, making sure the kegs are properly rotated, the lines are being cleaned properly and the system’s clean.”

He says dirty draught lines might be responsible for you feeling sick after a few beers.

According to Riley, kegs and bottles are filled from the same source so any difference in taste is from the way the beer is stored and served.

“So if they don’t clean their lines, the beer gets a very buttery, kind of slick mouth taste to it,” says Riley. “We find a lot of people that say we don’t drink draft because it gives me a headache and exaggerated hangover where you’ll have two beers but feel like you had 10.”

Riley says those are all signs of dirty draught lines and improper maintenance of the draught system.

He says his program teaches staff how to handle beer properly from keg to glass through an online teaching program.

Riley says St Louis Wings is expected to be fully certified by the end of April.
