Downing Place Project On Schedule To Finish In Mid-August

The Downing Street Plaza project is on time thanks in part to the short, warm winter.

City of Moncton project engineer Rene Lagacé says they are about 20% done after having finished the underground work last year.

He adds they are now into the surfacing work.

“If you drive on Main Street, you’ll notice a concrete slab that’s been laid, and on top of that you’ll soon be seeing some of the concrete pavers laid on top of the concrete slab,” says Lagacé.

He says they are in the final stages of the surfacing work.

“There’s a lot of tedious work left to be done because there’s a lot of pavers that will need to be cut because of the design that was proposed,” says Lagacé. “So we definitely have several months to go.”

Lagacé says the 3.3 million dollar project is more expensive than similar projects.

He adds they usually use concrete curb and asphalt but for Moncton 125 they are doing it a little differently.

“This is built with granite curb, and concrete pavers, so it’s quite more expensive than the traditional way of doing things,” says Lagacé. “But it’s a signature project and we definitely wanted to do something special.”
