Two years ago, a student from Lewisville Middle School encouraged others to join with her to help the homeless.
Caileigh Fagan is now in eighth grade and is challenging everyone to create Comfort care kits.
Fagan says she was inspired in sixth grade while walking home from a hockey game, “There was a man sitting on Main Street in Moncton and he looked homeless. It is winter and I really felt bad. I started thinking of ideas of how I could help.”
In the first year, due to generous donations by local companies, students and other members of the public, the students of Lewisville Middle School were able to create 77 comfort care kits and raise $650 which was donated to Reconnect Moncton, Ray of Hope Soup Kitchen and Harvest House Moncton.
Last year due the COVID-19 shutdown, Fagan did an online campaign and was able to raise $1900.
Fagan says her teacher Mr. Bishop helped in a huge way. He supported her with her move to online last year. This year he has brought the project to his new school, Sunny Brae.
“I think a lot of people don’t take into consideration that even though it’s not really cold now. Homelessness is still a thing. They don’t just suddenly have a home now,” Fagan says.

Donations can be made by contacting Kyle Bishop (229-4381) or Jillian Smith (875-1502) or drop off items at Lewisville Middle School (45 McAuley Drive) or Sunny Brae Middle School (170 Curry Street).
“Hopefully the school and community can come together again and create something incredible, wonderful and make a few people smile, knowing that someone out there truly cares,” Fagan says.
