Donation Ensures Protection For Grand Manan Birds

A generous donation from Earl Brewer and Sandy Kitchen of Fredericton will help protect vulnerable birds in Grand Manan.

The 28 acres of coastal property on a peninsula within the migratory bird sanctuary has been donated to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

New Brunswick Program Director Paula Noel says their goal is to protect areas like this that are important to wildlife.

“It’s really one of the highest examples of that. It’s an area that has been identified for many, many years as being really important. One of the most important sites in Canada for migratory birds.” Noel says.

Brewer and Kitchen also donated last year in this same area for a total of about 320 acres.

The NCC’s Paula Noel says they work with willing landowners around the province who want to see their land protected and they often sell it to the NCC at a discount or donate the land.
