MONCTON, N.B. – The City of Moncton is now one step closer to having a downtown entertainment centre and that has several organizations cheering.
Downtown Moncton Centreville Inc. was excited with yesterday’s announcement that the province will invest $23.85 million towards the project.
DMCI executive director Anne Poirier Basque says the new centre will be built in place of Highfield Square, which is currently sitting empty and becoming derelict.
It is projected the centre will attract up to 396,000 people each year and generate up to $15 million in spending.
Basque says the new centre is exactly what is needed to move the downtown forward.
