A multi-sports competition for Francophone youth will be held in Dieppe in 2025.
A bid to host the 44th finals of the Jeux de l’Acadie was made back in September.
Over the weekend at the annual general meeting for the games, Dieppe was named as the chosen community.
Dieppe previously hosted the games in 1993 and 2002, as well as the regional games on numerous occasions.
“As the largest Acadian city in the world and the largest French-speaking city outside of Quebec, Dieppe can be proud of its ability to host major events that leave a significant legacy for the community,” said Mayor Yvon Lapierre.
The city stated a greater sense of volunteerism and Acadian pride, as well as significant economic spinoffs, are just a few of the factors motivating the City to host the finals.
The finals were held in Saint John and Quispamsis this year, and are planned for Memramcook in 2023.
Bouctouche is slated to host the finals in 2024.
The games were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.
Jeux de l’Acadie attracts thousands of participants and families to the region where they are being held.
