Dennis Oland Retrial Continues In Saint John

The process of finding a jury for the second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland continuing today at the Saint John Law Courts.

Judge Terrence Morrison instructing everyone in the courtroom and potential jurors in an overflow courtroom on the various criteria which may excuse them from becoming a member of the jury such as a health issue, caring for young children and language barriers.

In court, Morrison warned potential jurors about how they can’t speak about the questions being asked in the second round.

A broadcast ban is in place on the specific questions asked.

Oland is charged in the 2011 death of his father, prominent Saint John businessman, Richard Oland, who was found murdered in his Uptown Saint John office.

He was convicted in December of 2015, but the New Brunswick Court of Appeal overturned the conviction and ordered a new trial in October of 2016.

The retrial is expected to last 65 days.
