Dealing With Loss In A Fire Is Difficult, Especially At Christmas Time

Losing everything in a fire can be a very difficult experience, especially at Christmas time.

Big Hearts, Small City is one of several organizations that steps in to help the victims to get back on their feet.

Founder Jason Surette says for these, “The world is turned upside down. One day, you’re living in your house, you have all of your possessions and you’re living life. After a fire, you could just be left with the shirt on your back.”

He says he has spoken to fire victims, and notes, “They need that hand extended to them to guide them through the first few days after a fire, and that’s what we do.”

One of the things Surette says one of the things they always have fire victims do, is write everything down, because when you are going through a traumatic experience like that, it is very easy to lose track of what needs to be done.
