Day Of Mourning Marked In Moncton

The president of the New Brunswick Federation of Labour says Workplace NB needs more compliance officers across the province to ensure that workers are safe on the job.

Patrick Colford says every employee who goes to work each day expects to return home safe.

“Accidents do happen… but at the end of the day if the proper protocols and training are not there and the workers don’t know what their rights are… you can’t respect what you don’t know.”

Members of the military along with police, firefighters, NB Power crews and other workers gathered for a moment of silence today at Moncton’s Bore Park.

A ceremony was held to mark the National Day of Mourning which remembers those who have lost their lives as a result of work-related accidents or occupational diseases.
