Data Breaches Expected To Remain Major Issue For Companies For Next Decade

Home Depot is the second major retailer to fall victim to a data breach in less than a year, but don’t expect the problem to go away anytime in the forseeable future.

That predication being made by David Shipley of UNB’s I-T Services who says we’re in the midst of a so-called digital arms race.

He tells us the public and private sectors are getting swamped by these attacks and believes these breaches are going to remain a huge issue for at least the next decade. Shipley says private sector businesses and the banking industry need to come up with better ways to protect financial information because e-commerce is not going away.

Target says approximately 40 million credit and debit card accounts may have been impacted in the data breach which happened late last year.
