A financial boost for Crossroads for Women will help ensure victims receive timely access to care for sexual assault.
Medavie is giving the organization a grant for 75 thousand dollars over three years to support the South-East Sexual Assault Centre.
Executive Director Tina Thibodeau says they provide a variety of services, including counselling, crisis intervention, and community outreach to victims of sexual assault.
“We either are at the hospital with them, at court cases or we bring them to the RCMP station. We educate and create some awareness and of course provide support and counselling for the victims. We really are just at the ground level, and there’s still a lot of work to do. Having that support from Medavie, it will really assist us in helping the victims in Southeast New Brunswick.”
Crossroads for Women is largest and busiest shelter in New Brunswick, providing services to more than 2,000 victims of domestic violence and sexual assault each year.
“With the core funding coming through, we will be able to put the proper programming in place and recruit volunteers on a regular basis. It is really a program that is growing tremendously and fast,” Thibodeau says.
