Coroner’s inquest announced into Dieppe workplace fatality

A coroner’s inquest will look into a workplace fatality in Dieppe more than a year ago.

Jamie Harris died at the site of a water main break in the city on Aug. 21, 2023.

First responders responded to the incident in the Domaine Dover Estates that afternoon.

A spokesperson for WorkSafeNB told our newsroom that the victim was employed by Perfection Contracting.

During the inquest, the deputy chief coroner and a jury will hear evidence to determine the facts surrounding Harris’ death.

They will also have the chance to make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

However, as an independent fact-finding agency, the New Brunswick Coroner Service may not make any finding of legal responsibility.

Four days have been set aside for the inquest beginning on Feb. 24 at the Moncton courthouse.
