Thousands of pounds of food has been given away by the Greater Moncton SPCA since it launched its pet food bank.
It was a program created during the pandemic.
“Since the pandemic is winding down, we made the decision to make the food bank a full-time and permanent fixture for us,” Executive Director Dan Fryer says.
He adds they are always in need of unopened bags and cans of food for animals including dogs, cats and bunnies, “We try not to tell people a specific brand in the same way in the same way when people ask us for a specific brand from the food bank and we can’t match that, so whatever people can donate to us, we’re always willing to take.”
The demand for food has never really gone went away, so the shelter continues to have a need for donations.
“I think we are close to ten thousand pounds given out year to date. We are constantly giving away food from the food bank and seeing new clients reach out and look for assistance,” Fryer says.
Food and other items, as well as monetary donations, can be dropped off at the Greater Moncton SPCA on Greenock Street.
