Conservative Social Development Critic Says Seniors Should Be Applauded

A Council on Aging is now being established by the provincial government, as a part of a new aging strategy.

This comes after Premier Gallant’s announcement yesterday, that his government will not go ahead with plans to hike nursing home fees.

Conservative MLA and Social Development Critic Ernie Steeves is relieved that the provincial government backed down and reversed their decision.

He says this has created a lot of unnecessary stress for seniors in the province, including someone very close to him,

He says, “I have a 92 year old mother, who has gone through a great deal of worry and concern, as have her family members.”

Steeves says seniors should pat themselves on the back for their continued fight against the proposed policy that would have left them financially drained.
