Community supporter, former MLA dies at 71

A New Brunswick woman with a huge heart and passion for community has passed away.

Sue Stultz died on Monday at the age of 71 after a lengthy illness.

The Riverview resident was extensively involved in charity work and loved helping people across the province.

She was a one-term Progressive Conservative MLA in Moncton West from 2010 to 2014 and served as the province’s social development minister.

Known to many as the “Turkey Lady,” Stultz launched a drive over 30 years ago to ensure everyone in southeastern New Brunswick had a turkey on their table at Christmas time.

Stultz owned an Irving Mainway for over 25 years, which is how the Turkey Drive began before she partnered with the IAFF 999 Moncton Firefighters to continue donating turkeys to anyone in need. That was just one of the ways her giving impacted communities.

According to Stultz’s obituary, she was recognized by many organizations for her volunteer work. Awards included the Order of Moncton, the Muriel Fergusson Award, the Caring Canadian Award, the Paul Harris Fellow International Award, and the International YMCA Peace Medal.

Visitation for Stultz will be held at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Riverview on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The Royal Canadian Legion, Moncton Branch #6, will also hold a memorial service at 5:30 p.m. from the funeral home.

A service celebrating her life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. The service will be live streamed and recorded.
