Common Front Says There Are Too Many Working Poor In NB

The Common Front Front Social Justice is applauding the New Democratic Party and their support for an increased minimum wage.

They’re supporting a $15 an hour minimum wage.

Co-Chair Pauline Gallant says they are hoping other political parties will take the same stance, “Two years ago, from studies, we know that people need $15 an hour just to be able to survive above the poverty line. Everything has gone up since, so it’s probably even more than that. The campaign we held two years ago, the NDP and Green Party were supportive then so it’s just great to hear that it is going to be a part of the NDP platform and that thy are pushing for it.”

Gallant says there are just too many working poor in the province,”It is extremely important for employers and employees, and the government to understand that you can’t have an economy growing when people are working full time and living in poverty. You just can’t afford to live.”
