Codiac RCMP Cracking Down On Distracted Driving

Codiac RCMP are stepping up their enforcement related to distracted driving this month.

Mounties are urging drivers to keep eyes on the road at all times.

Staff Sergeant Eric Larose says always use a hands-free option when on your phone.

He says a better idea would be to turn off the ringer and place the device in the glove box to prevent being distracted by an incoming call or text.

Stats from CAA show a driver who texts is 23 times more likely to be involved in a crash or near crash compared to a driver who pays full attention to the road.

Under the Motor Vehicle Act, the fine for distracted driving is $172.50 and a loss of three points from your driver’s licence.
