The New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity is thrilled with news that the Gallant government will dedicate 35 million dollars to pay equity adjustments for about 3000 educational support staff from CUPE Local 2745.
Chair Vallie Stearns-Anderson says this would not be possible without legislation in place.
She says pay inequity is different that the wage gap it depends on the sector and the workplace.
She adds it really has to be assessed and it has to be assessed under the watchful eyes of a pay equity bureau that is properly staffed.
As for when these school support workers, most of whom are women, will start seeing this money, Stearns-Anderson says the money is retroactive to 2012 but the Union leaders will have more info on that.
