Coalition For Pay Equity Is Hopeful But Concerned

After many delays, will pay equity within the provincial government finally become a reality this year.

That’s the hope of the New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity in light of the new Liberal government expressing its support for pay equity in its very first budget.

The Chair of the Pay Coalition, Vallie Stearns is concerned when she sees virtually no increase in the budgets of government departments where pay equity would apply.

Stearns believes pay equity in the private sector won’t come about voluntarily but will have to be legislated.

She adds an economist back in 2004 estimated pay equity would add 266 million dollars in revenue for the provincial government.
