Moncton Creating Climate Action Group

The City of Moncton is putting together a climate action working group and seeks community volunteers with expertise or interest in environment-related matters.

Elaine Aucoin, Moncton director of environmental planning and management, says the group will strive toward an ultimate goal.

“We know that we have to adopt a more stringent greenhouse gas emissions target which we will be presenting to City Council soon,” noted Aucoin.

The deadline to apply is January 21 and more information can be found on the City of Moncton’s website.

A time commitment of between two and eight hours monthly can be expected.

Once members are selected, Aucoin said a meeting will be held about once a month starting in February.

Acknowledging the seriousness of the climate crisis, the City of Moncton joined a global movement of cities by declaring a climate emergency in April 2019.

The City prepared a climate action report which was unveiled in 2020 focusing on climate mitigation efforts.
