Church Street Fire Sends Two To Hospital

Two people have been sent to hospital with injuries after a fire in a home at 222 Church Street off Mountain Road in Moncton.

Acting Fire Chief with the Moncton Fire Department Don McCabe says they arrived on scene at around 10 this morning, to find flames coming from the structure, “There were two people trapped inside the building. The gentleman got out on his own. When firefighters first arrived, a unit went in after the other victim, and they got them out. Both those people were sent to hospital.”

McCabe says it’s believed the two people suffered from smoke inhalation and burns.

Firefighters also rescued a cat, and it was treated with oxygen.

There’s no word at this point on how the fire started, but it is believed that might have been in the basement area.

McCabe says the cold weather posed a major challenge this morning for the firefighters.
