First-degree murder charges have now been laid four years after the tragic deaths of a Dieppe couple.
On Sept. 7, 2019, the bodies of 74-year-old Rose-Marie Saulnier and 78-year-old Bernard Saulnier were found in their Amirault Street home.
Janson Bryan Baker, 27, was charged on Thursday in Moncton in connection with their deaths.
Baker is currently in custody at the Atlantic Institution, a maximum-security prison in Renous, pending court proceedings for a number of other unrelated charges he is facing.
Staff Sgt. Jean-Marc Paré adds it is not believed that there is a direct connection between the deaths of the Saulnier family and the other offences for which Baker is currently being held.
“This has been an exceptionally complex investigation. This is a terrible crime against two well-loved people. Since that time, investigators have been persistent in working on bringing to light what led to Rose-Marie and Bernard Saulnier’s murder. This is still considered to be an active investigation and we are still pursuing leads,” said Paré.

Several requests to the public were issued throughout the four-year investigation, looking for information, and Paré says it was instrumental in this resolution.
RCMP couldn’t elaborate on a motive for the crimes, as that is a part of the judicial proceedings.
Paré also couldn’t confirm whether or not they are still seeking other suspects as the investigation is ongoing.
“The charges laid today mean that we are one step closer in getting answers and closure for the deaths of my parents,” said Luc Saulnier in a statement on behalf of the family.
Saulnier is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 14.
