DIEPPE, N.B. – Fire investigators in Dieppe are still trying to find out what caused a fire which heavily damaged a four-storey apartment building on Champlain Street.
Deputy Chief Conrad Landry says it’s been a slow process but they have determined the fire started in the roof or attic of the building late Sunday night.
Landry says it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.
Superintendent David Beaulieu, who also lived in the building, is just relieved everyone got out OK.
Beaulieu says he had insurance but he knows that many tenants did not.
With so much smoke and water damage, it’s not clear if the residents will be able to go back to their homes.
The Red Cross says many of the 46 tenants are now staying in motels or with friends and relatives.
