Cap-Pele man sentenced for child sexual offences

It’s two years in prison for a Cap-Pele man who pleaded guilty to child sex related offences.

RCMP say 58-year-old Rene Godin was sentenced on Thursday.

He was arrested in June 2023, after officers searched a Cap-Pele home and seized several electronic devices.

Police say the investigation began in April of the same year after information was received from the Sûreté du Québec – Internet Child Sexual Exploitation Investigations Unit about a man believed to be in New Brunswick who was making arrangements online with another adult to commit a sexual offence against whom he believed to be a child.

Godin appeared in court in August 2024 and was charged with making arrangements to commit a sexual offence against a child and making child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

In January this year, he pleaded guilty.

His name will also be added to the National sex offender registry, and he will be required to provide a DNA sample.

When Godin is released from prison, he will also have to abide by conditions set by the court.
