Cap-Pelé Receives Funds For New Community Centre

Residents of Cap-Pele and the surrounding communities are in line to receive a new community centre after investments from all three levels of government.

Representatives were on hand for the announcement at the Cap-Pelé arena on Wednesday morning.

Contributions from the Government of Canada’s Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program and the Government of New Brunswick account for about $9.4 million.

The Village of Cap-Pele is also on the hook for over $4.1 million of the projects costs.

The Cap-Pelé Intergenerational Community Centre will feature a multi-use room, a 140-metre walking track, three meeting rooms and a social lounge.

“Improved community and recreation infrastructure will promote an active and healthy lifestyle for the residents of Cap-Pelé and the entire region,” said New Brunswick Minister Gary Crossman.

In addition, the village’s current arena will receive a facelift with money from today’s announcement. Renovations include six new locker rooms, 500 seats, a new reception area, an elevator, a canteen and new bathrooms.

“This centre will allow our region of 15,000 to make use of modern facilities year-round to maintain good health and to have a sense of belonging to their community,” said Cap-Pelé Mayor Serge Léger.
