Cannabis NB is planning for lineups at its stores on Wednesday — the day recreational marijuana becomes legal in Canada.
But Brian Harriman, president and CEO of Cannabis NB, said they are fully staffed and ready to go.
“We did have 6,000 people apply to be employees at Cannabis NB,” Harriman said during a technical briefing on Monday. “We shortlisted to about 2,000, ended up screening interviews with 800 people, and we’ve hired 330 so far.”
The 20 Cannabis NB retail locations will open their doors to the public at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Harriman said customers should not hesitate to ask questions when they are in the stores.
“The model we’ve chosen is heavily dependent on staff training and education and it’s built to help people make responsible, educated choices and understand what it is they’re purchasing and how it works,” he said.
Cannabis NB is expecting $45 million in revenue this fiscal year — down from original estimates of $73 million due to delays in legalization.
Harriman said their mandate is public health and safety, but they do anticipate profits in the future.
