Canadian Youth Taking Action On Environmental Issues

A new Ipsos Reid survey determined many Canadian kids are increasingly concerned about environmental issues.

The study examined the level of awareness the kids had, as well as their attitudes and behaviour towards the environment.

The study looked at feedback from 1,200 children across the country between the ages of 8 and 11.

It found that when kids were given the opportunity to help the environment, they became more engaged, more confident and more optimistic in their ability to protect animals, their habitats and the health of our planet.

The group Earth Rangers commissioned this study because they wanted to know which environmental issues were most important to kids.

60 per cent said protecting animals from extinction was their number one priority, ahead of litter, air pollution and climate change.

80 per cent believed they can make a positive difference for animals and the environment.

Many said they were making an effort to protect the environment, with 77% saving water by not running the tap too long and three quarters of kids saying they have picked up litter.
