Sussex was one of the hardest hit areas in last week’s stormy conditions.
Many residents were still dealing with the cleanup over the weekend.
Emergency Management Coordinator with the Canadian Red Cross John Spicer says a lot of homes were hit with flooding, “From what I saw, there was a lot of damage to a lot of homes. We are supporting people in whatever they need, in providing accommodations. We are currently still helping ten households with temporary accommodations as well as providing flood kits and food support.”
Spicer says one of the difficulties when it comes to disaster relief in Sussex, is they don’t have any volunteers there, “Right now, we don’t have any in Sussex. It did change our operation there on Thursday during the flooding. If there is anyone in the Sussex arae who is willing and able to help their neighbours during events like this, that would be great.”
So far this year alone, the Canadian Red Cross has had over 150 responses, due to weather related events which Spicer says are very unpredictable these days.
