Five years after an earthquake devastated Haiti – a Canadian charity is giving orphaned children a second chance at a family and a future.
That’s according to the National Director of SOS Children’s Villages Canada – Boyd McBride.
He says at their core, they provide homes, families and hope for children who’ve lost those things.
“We build villages, which are clusters of homes, and we hire and train local women to live in those homes and raise abandoned and orphaned children as if they were their own.”
McBride says despite opening a new village just this past weekend with 14 homes that will house approximately 140 children – there is still much progress to be made with an estimated 400, 000 abandoned or orphaned children in Haiti.
He adds Canadians can help by sponsoring an individual child, or even donating money to a village for repairs, and maintenance.
