New blood donors are needed.
Director of Donor Relations Peter Macdonald says they’ve set a goal for Canadian Blood Services this year to bring in more people to roll up their sleeves..and give the gift of life, “One of our goals this year is to generate 100, 000 new donors to the blood system to help replenish our donor base across the country. We need to recruit new donors because we have an aging donor base, and we need to maintain the national supply for hospital patients.”
They have a desperate need to attract donors currently. Macdonald says donations are down over the last few months due to new rules to protect the blood supply from the Zika virus and also because of cold and flu.
They need to receive an additional 7000 donations before July. Their goal is to maintain the inventory at 20, 000 units heading into the summer, and currently the inventory is less than that.
