Cameras For Healing Project Seeing Results

An initiative that helps build confidence and self esteem is producing great results.

Cameras for Healing has been around since 2006, but it is still gaining momentum.

In a workshop called “My Story”, youth from the Moncton Boys and Girls Club use photography as a way to express themselves.

Photographer Maurice Henri says they’ll be going before Moncton City Council tonight, but Henri says he won’t be doing the talking this time around, “Four kids approached me Saturday and said, we want to speak at City Council to say how we feel about this project. This is something that they never ever would have done a few months ago, so for me that is a huge thing. That is what gives us wings to keep on going.”

He says, “It takes a long time for these kids to talk about themselves and what gives them fear, and what makes them sad. It is all about developing a sense of security and trust.”

The youth are between the ages of 12 and 17, and many of them have dealt with issues such as poverty, family issues or bullying.
