Buyer found for Mastermind Toys, but some stores closing

Mastermind Toys has been saved from bankruptcy, but not all of its stores will survive.

The company said Monday it had entered into a purchase agreement with Unity Acquisitions.

It came less than two weeks after the toy and children’s book retailer filed for creditor protection.

According to a news release, Unity will acquire most of the company’s 66 locations.

However, 18 stores across the country will close, including locations in Saint John and Fredericton.

Liquidation sales began on Dec. 1 and will continue through the holiday season.

The company’s third New Brunswick location in Moncton will remain open.
