Brush Fire Prompts Reminder From Dieppe Fire About Dry Conditions

The conditions are drier than you may think, and fire departments across the region are sending our reminders about burning outdoors.

District Chief for the Dieppe Fire department Marc Cormier says firefighters battled a blaze in an area near the walking trail at Pointe aux Renards at around 10:30 last night. They had to access the area on foot and by ATV.

It’s believed it started as an open campfire, “It spreads rapidly because the surface is dry and with the wind conditions. We caution people to not burn at this time of year, and to respect what is established by the province for the fire index,” Cormier says.

Cormier says this was in an area commonly used by people to hang out and there was evidence of campfires being lit in the past.

The fire consumed an area of about 100×100 feet by the time it was spotted.

Memramcook Fire also responded to three similar calls yesterday.

“Vegetation is very dry at this time of year, and fires can spread rapidly with the winds.”

Just a reminder that it is forest fire season in the province. The fire index is updated daily at 2pm.
