If the City of Moncton wins its bid to host the Brier in 2020….it is expected to encourage even more people to want to learn more about the sport.
President of Curl Moncton Jacques Robichaud says they’ve already had to expand their facility to allow for more play.
“We went through a reorganization process and in 2011, we amalgamated into one curling club called “Curl Moncton.” By early fall, we’ll be up to 10 sheets of ice at that one location.”
Winning the 2020 Brier would bring the big names in curling to the Hub City to compete at the new downtown events centre.
“When a major curling event comes to the city like that, like it did in 2009, we do get a lot of people knocking on our doors, who say they would like to the sport. It does have an impact on the number of curlers in the community,” Robichaud says.
The purchase of presale tickets will help the city with their bid. They are on sale now for $50.
The 2020 Brier would bring some big name curlers to the Hub City, and would be played at the new dowtown events centre.
The City will submit their bid to Curl Canada in June.
