Bobcat Spotted Lurking In Backyard In Moncton’s North End

It’s not often in the City of Moncton, you are looking out your window and see a large wild cat in your backyard.

Deby Reicker lives on Frampton Lane in Moncton’s north end. Her home backs onto Mapleton Park. Her daughter Julia noticed through the window, what looked like a bobcat in the backyard.

“I turned around and he was literally seven feet from the window,” Reicker says.

They watched him for around five to ten minutes, while he just sat there, “Then, he walked around to the front of the house. I opened up the door to try and make a racket, because I wanted to scare him out of the yard, and he just ran off back into the Park.”

Reicker says the animal was very skinny, She is concerned it came out of the woods looking for food.

“When I put the dog out this morning, I stood right there and watched, because I was worried this animal was going to come back in the yard.”

Reicker says she has been getting a lot of feedback on Facebook that it is pretty scary that an animal like this is wandering through backyards where children and dogs are.

She asked the owners of the home, if they’ve ever seen a bobcat in the 13 years they’ve lived there, “The Owner says he has never seen a bobcat come as close as this to a house before.”

Meantime, a spokesperson for the provincial Energy and Resources department told us..these cats pose very little danger to humans, because they are typically shy animals.

In a statement they said, If you come across a bobcat, they recommend you never approach it.. You should back away and remain calm and do not turn your back on them. If it approaches you, should wave your arms to appear bigger than the cat and speak to it in a firm voice.
