Canadians are being encouraged to become blood donors.
The supply in Canada has reached a six year low.
Director of Donor Relations in Atlantic Canada for Canadian Blood Services Peter MacDonald says they are seeing people make appointments to give blood, then not show up.
“Some of our critical blood groups that we want to have between five and eight days of inventory on hand, currently only have three days on hand. We need Canadians to answer the call and donate blood.”
MacDonald says the blood supply is 35 percent lower than they planned for it to be at this stage in the year.
He says it could be November before they get back to acceptable supply levels.
