Bitter Cold Temperatures Not Going Anywhere, Meteorologist Says

We won’t be getting a reprieve from these bitingly cold temperatures anytime soon according to Environment Canada.

Meteorologist Linda Libby says in New Brunswick, where a special weather statement is in effect warning of the cold, we’re looking at colder than normal temperatures right through the 7-day forecast with overnight lows for the next couple days ranging from -20 to -23 improving a little bit for the first part of January.

“All those temperatures are all colder than normal,” says Libby.

“At this time of year we’re looking at highs around -2 with lows around -12 so we’re looking anywhere from about 12 to 14 degrees colder than normal for the next couple of days to 8 to 10 degrees colder than normal for overnight lows.”

It might get warmer next week but there is a catch.

“Looking ahead there is maybe a day of warmer or possibly near normal to above normal temperatures, possibly for mid-to late week next week but it’s in the form of a storm. There’s a good news bad news thing. It’s going to warm up, it’ll probably be short-lived, but it’s going to be accompanied with bad weather,” says Libby.

Libby says that means wind and precipitation for New Brunswick, mostly in the form of snow and possibly a lot of it.
