Big Salary Hikes Proposed For Dieppe Mayor and Council

Big salary increases could be in store for the mayor of Dieppe and its city council.

A working group was asked by the city to review salaries and its report suggests that the salary of mayor should more than double in five years – from the current nearly $36,000 per year to $78,000 by June 2024.

The deputy mayor’s salary would climb from almost $20,000 to just over $35,000.

Councillors would get a bump from almost $17,000 to more than $31,000.

The city decided to review salaries since federal tax changes in 2019 will lead to a large decrease in net income for municipal councillors.

Salaries had not been reviewed in six years.

Four readings are needed before Dieppe City Council officially approves the salary changes.
