Big Brothers/Big Sisters In Greater Moncton Experiencing A Financial Strain

There continues to be more and more demand for Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Greater Moncton, but all of those services come at a cost.

Executive Director Peter MacDonald says they’re at a point where the money is getting very low.

He says three years ago they served 120 kids, but the are now over 340, but unfortunately the one thing that doesn’t grow is your budget.

MacDonald says for the organization to continue the growth that they are at, and to continue helping the kids, they have to hire a fifth person, 80 per cent of the funds that are spent by the organization are obtained through fundraising.

Macdonald says they are not at risk of closing at this point, but without an inflow of cash. At some point, they’ll have to stop taking anymore kids.
