Big Brothers Big Sisters Of Greater Moncton Raises $160,000 Dollars At Fundraiser

Last night’s fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Moncton was a stunning success with more than 300 people in attendance.

Board Director Darcy Doyle says setting a goal of $100,000 was quite ambitious but with all the support of local businesses and residents they were successful.

The total amount raised was slightly over $160,000.

“We were in a financial crisis, basically what this will do, we’ll be able to start fresh, we reorganized the office about a month ago, we’re looking to probably rehire right away,” says Doyle.

He adds this event was also about more than just money.

“Events definitely help the cause because it gives us a lot of visibility to show the need, not just for money, but volunteers too,” says Doyle. “So we demonstrated that Bigs and Littles, their relationships are very important.”

Doyle says a surprise cheque for $14,000 from the provincial government was particularly appreciated.

“We’re very fortunate we were able to get the $14,000, and the money we already get from the government,” says Doyle. “We’ve just got to keep getting in their face and telling them all the good things that we do.”

119 local organizations were involved in last night’s event.
