Big Blizzard Set To Batter Maritimes Once More

Old Man Winter won’t be making a quiet exit this year.

There are blizzard warnings in effect for much of New Brunswick including Saint John, Moncton, Fredericton, and St. Stephen with total snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 centimetres possible.

Environment Canada meteorologist Jason Sheppard tells us the storm should begin around midnight or overnight with a few centimetres accumulating by dawn.

“In general we’re looking at about 20 to 30 centimetres for most regions,” says Sheppard. “The problem being the winds will pick up throughout the morning, around the coastline near Moncton we’ll see gusts around 80 kilometres per hour.”

He says combined with the snow that will lead to local whiteout conditions and blowing snow.

By Sunday evening the snow should taper off though we might have blowing snow at that point but throughout the night the winds will gradually diminish.
