Every student at Bessborough School took part in the Sue Stultz and Moncton Firefighters Association Turkey Drive today when they carried turkeys from their school down the street to the St. George Boulevard fire station.
Led by their principal Nick Mattatall, who was wearing a turkey costume, the students delivered 265 turkeys which surpassed their own goal of 200.
Mattatall says while dressing up like a turkey makes him look silly, he adds it’s a great way for kids to learn about giving back.
Firefighter Chris Jackson is a Bessborough alumnus and says this is something special and really heartwarming.
“I get almost emotional because to see these kids – the entire student body – bring in that amount of turkeys and raise the funds to purchase this amount of turkeys, it’s truly amazing,” he notes.
Following the big Bessborough School delivery, the turkey tally stood at 2,688 with only one more day to reach this year’s goal of 4,315.
