UPDATE: Two dead, several others injured in horrific N.B. crash

Two teens are dead, and another is in critical condition after a crash at Berry Mills and Zack Road in Moncton.

RCMP believe that at around 7:20 pm Monday, a car crossed the centre of the road and collided head-on with an SUV.

There were five people in each vehicle.

A 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man from the car died at the scene.

A 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital and is believed to be in critical condition, and a 14-year-old suffered minor injuries.

The 25-year-old driver of the car also suffered what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

He was later arrested as part of the investigation.

Five others who were in the SUV, who range in age from 24 to 72, are from Arkansas, United States. They were taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP say autopsies have been scheduled and the investigation into the collision is ongoing.

Berry Mills Road was closed for around eight hours, but reopened at around 1 am Tuesday.

A letter from the Anglophone East School District identifies three of the teens, two who died in the crash and another who remains in critical condition, as Harrison Trimble students and the 14-year-old as a student at Riverview High School.

“Our thoughts are with the families, friends, classmates, staff and everyone affected by this loss,” Superintendent Randolph MacLEAN stated in the email.

“School teams will be attentive to students who may be struggling with the news and will help connect them with the appropriate support.”
